A word from Vice President Lori McDonald: May 2026
Just yesterday, we celebrated commencement—a joyful and inspiring day that reminds us exactly why we do this work. Together, we watched another incredible group of students turn their tassels and step into their futures.
While the ceremony may be over, I want to take a moment to celebrate all that you have made possible this year. It’s because of your intentional care across the many facets of students’ lives that we are able to create meaningful pathways to graduation.
Nothing highlights your impact more than seeing students celebrate their hard work and successes—culminating in a series of end-of-year celebrations; From the Center for Community and Cultural Engagement’s Celebrating U Completely Graduation to the Veterans Support Center’s Bayonet and Cord Ceremony and the Center for Native Excellence and Tribal Engagement’s Blanket Honoring Ceremony, these moments reflect the care and dedication behind each student’s journey.
While these are just a few examples of how we’ve celebrated this graduation season, I know several other departments have worked tirelessly to create meaningful end-of-year celebrations—each one giving students space to be recognized, honored, and celebrated for all they’ve accomplished.
As we close out the academic year, I just want to say thank you. Whether you’re supporting students directly or working behind the scenes, your dedication leaves a notable mark on our students’ lives. I hope you feel proud of what we’ve accomplished together.
Thank you for all you do—and here’s to a much-earned summer refresh ahead.
Sincerely,
Lori McDonald
