Student Affairs Graduate Assistantships
Student Affairs graduate assistantships are currently open to students enrolled in the Educational Leadership & Policy MEd Student Affairs program.While students in the MEd program are given priority, we also welcome applications from students in the ELP doctoral programs and the Department of Education, Culture & Society master’s, and doctoral programs.
These opportunities undergo annual updates, and changes may occur regularly. It is important to note that stipends can vary based on the department and the specific responsibilities of the graduate assistant.
Interviews for graduate assistantships during the 2026-2027 academic year are scheduled to occur virtually over Campus Preview Week, to be announced in Fall 2025.

Overview of Position
As a graduate assistant, you will work closely with experienced professionals in higher education and contribute to the holistic development of our students. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in a dynamic university environment and provides opportunities for professional growth.
Available Assistantships
For the 2026-2027 academic year, graduate assistantship positions are available in the following departments:
- Dream Center
- Sunnyside Apartments
- Housing and Residential Education
- Fraternity and Sorority Life
- Center for Community and Cultural Engagement
- Center for Campus Wellness
- Office of Undergraduate Studies, First Year Experiences
General Responsibilities
Each graduate assistantship will likely vary in responsibilities based on the focus area and needs of the department. General responsibilities may include:
- Program Support: Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing various student programs and projectss that promote student engagement, personal development, and academic success.
- Student Support: Provide guidance, resources, and support to students by addressing their questions, concerns, and needs.
- Administrative Duties: Help with administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, managing student records, maintaining databases, and organizing events or workshops.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty through email, phone, and in-person meetings.
- Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness and student outcomes.
- Research and Assessment Support: Assist in conducting research or assessment projects related to student affairs, retention, and success.
- Professional Development: Attend relevant training sessions, conferences, and workshops to enhance your knowledge and skills in student affairs and higher education.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in a graduate program at the University of Utah. (Preference given to those enrolled in the Education Leadership and Policy Masters program)
- Interest in and commitment to student development and higher education
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite and data management tools
Terms and Benefits
- The graduate assistantship is a part-time position (typically 20 hours per week) during the academic year.
- Compensation includes a $25,000 stipend, tuition waiver for qualifying graduate programs, and health insurance benefits.
- The position is renewable for up to two years, contingent on performance and funding availability
