Growing with intention: An overview of SELFIE’s Supervisor Series
Supervising student employees is rarely a one-size-fits-all experience. Each student brings different strengths, experiences, and goals. Supporting them effectively requires flexibility, reflection, and a willingness to keep learning. Through the SELFIE (Student Employee, Leader, Fellow, and Intern Engagement) program, Student Affairs is committed to honoring a division-wide culture where supervisors feel equipped to support student employees’ growth while continuing to grow themselves. Creating intentional spaces for supervisors to learn from one another is a key part of that commitment.
What is the Supervisor Series?
The Supervisor Series is a division-wide learning opportunity designed to support supervisors in developing effective, thoughtful approaches to supervision and leadership. These online workshops bring colleagues together to share perspectives, learn from one another, and explore practical strategies that can be applied in day-to-day supervisory work.
What does the Spring 2026 Supervisor Series look like?
The Supervisor Series features interactive workshops focused on common supervisory experiences and opportunities for growth. The Spring 2026 slate of sessions include:
- Giving Feedback to Student Employees: Appreciation, Evaluations, and Growth
February 20, 10-11:30 a.m.
This workshop explores how to give clear, calm, and purposeful feedback while supporting student employees’ development and growth.
- Student Employment Dashboard: Retention and Graduation Data
May 15, 10-11:30 a.m.
This workshop provides an overview of student employment data, including trends, demographics, and insights related to retention, graduation, and SELFIE program outcomes.
Why does this matter?
Supervisors play a vital role in shaping the student employee experience. When supervisors feel supported, confident, and connected to one another, they’re better equipped to create meaningful, developmental experiences for student employees. The Supervisor Series supports this work by strengthening supervision practices across Student Affairs through shared learning, reflection, and data-informed decision-making. This all helps create a more supportive and effective environment for student employees.
