Campus resources for upcoming election

campus resources for upcoming election

Dear Student Affairs Staff,

As we approach the upcoming election, I want to acknowledge that this period will likely have a variety of impacts on our students. Elections often highlight a range of perspectives, and it's natural that each of us may feel differently about the outcomes and discussions. During this time, I encourage everyone to approach these differences with mutual respect.

The University of Utah is proud to be a campus that upholds free speech and fosters an environment where everyone can express their views openly. Whether or not we agree with one another, we all benefit from a campus that values freedom of expression. Review the Q&A for free speech and academic freedom on campus to learn more about what is (and isn’t) protected under the University Speech Policy

Please remind our campus community members of the following resources:

Campus dialogue resources

  • Students interested in demonstrating are encouraged to connect with Josh Shulruff, campus dialogue program manager at the Bennion Center for Community Engagement, for guidance on university policies and legal guidelines and for assistance accessing resources available to student organizers and activists.
  • The Perspectives online program, developed by the Constructive Dialogue Institute (CDI), provides tools for engaging in constructive conversations that promote understanding and respect. This online resource is available for free to all students, faculty, and staff who register.
