Dr. Bryan Hubain making a "U" with his handsAfter more than five years of transformative leadership at the University of Utah, Dr. Bryan Hubain will be departing his role as associate vice president for Student Development & Community for Student Affairs. He will be joining Tulane University as Assistant Vice President for Strategy and Engagement.

During his time at the U, Hubain co-founded the Center for Community and Cultural Engagement and the Center for Student Access and Resources, formalized the Basic Needs Collective and Student Employee Leadership, Fellowship, and Intern Engagement (SELFIE) Program and provided oversight to offices including the Dream Center, Veterans Support Center, and Center for Native Excellence and Tribal Engagement. He also managed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ute Indian Tribe as a key Ute Indian Tribal Liaison.

Hubain supported key divisional transitions, including the integration of the TRIO Programs, the Financial Wellness Center, and the Career & Professional Development Center. He also oversaw the Student Affairs Graduate Assistantship Program, in partnership with the Educational Leadership and Policy (ELP) and Education, Culture, and Society (ECS) departments, which offered graduate students meaningful experience in higher education and Student Affairs work. His leadership extended to campus-wide efforts including the Graduate Student Task Force, the Anti-Racism Committee, international student support, and more.

"Bryan’s presence and leadership have left a deep imprint on our Student Affairs community. He brought both compassion and courage to every conversation, and his commitment to building a sense of belonging inspired real, lasting change,” said vice president for Student Affairs, Lori McDonald. “While we will deeply miss him, we’re excited to see him continue this important work and make a difference at Tulane. I will always be grateful for the time we shared as colleagues and friends."

At Tulane, Hubain will oversee the Carolyn Barber-Pierre Center for Intercultural Life, and lead division-wide strategic planning and staff engagement efforts to further Tulane’s commitment to inclusive excellence and student success.

"The U holds a very special place in my heart, and I will not only be cheering from the sidelines but also continuing to support the transformative work championed by friends and colleagues," said Hubain.

Hubain’s last day at the U will be July 10. Rachel Aho, assistant vice president for strategic initiatives and chief of staff, will serve as the interim reporting line for Development and Community.

Student Affairs extends its deepest gratitude to Dr. Hubain for his vision, service, and commitment to student development—and wishes him continued success in this next exciting chapter.
