A message from Vice President Lori McDonald
Important notice: Protect yourself from phishing scams
Dear Student Affair Staff,
It has come to my attention that some staff members received a phishing email earlier this week from someone impersonating me. I want to reassure you that when I email staff, students, faculty, or anyone at the University of Utah, I will always use my official @utah.edu email account (lmcdonald@sa.utah.edu), never a personal email. Additionally, I will never ask email recipients to purchase gift cards, transfer money, or provide sensitive personal information.
Cybercriminals often pose as university leadership in an attempt to deceive recipients into sharing personal or financial information, purchasing gift cards, or clicking on malicious links. These emails may also prompt you to log in to a university account—such as CIS—through a fraudulent link designed to steal your credentials or compromise your devices.
If you receive a suspicious email, do not respond, click on any links, or open attachments. Instead, report it immediately to the university’s IT security team. For more information on how to recognize and report phishing attempts, please visit this page.
Sincerely,
Lori McDonald
Vice President for Student Affairs
