See You Soon, Shigeo!

See You Soon ShigeoIt is with mixed emotions that we announce Shigeo Iwamiya has secured a new position at USC as the director of Residential Education. His last day at the U was June 13.

Since joining Housing and Residential Education (HRE) in 2023, Iwamiya has embraced his role as director of Residential Education, overseeing learning and development programs aimed at creating a supportive living environment that enhances the student experience and contributes to their personal development and academic success.

One of the most notable accomplishments during Iwamiya’s tenure was creating a more data-driven unit. By tracking 25 monthly Key Performance Indicators, ranging from program attendance and conduct violations to measures of well-being, HRE gained valuable insights into its impact on the university community.

“I am thankful for Shigeo’s leadership of the Residential Education unit during his time at the U. He’s helped to make HRE more data-savvy, refined internal processes, and been a strong contributor to the Student Affairs Engagement and Belonging Task Force,” said Sean Grube, associate vice president for HRE. “I’m sad he will no longer be at the U, but am so happy for his next adventure at USC.”

The national search for the next Director of Residential Education will begin in the coming weeks. In the interim, Grube will serve as director, supported by Stephen Henninger, associate director of Residential Education, and Anna Dickherber, chief of staff.
