Welcoming Virginia DeSpain as Director of the Student Parent Support Center
Student Affairs is thrilled to announce Virginia DeSpain as the new director of the Student Parent Support Center (SPSC). After serving as interim director, DeSpain now steps into the role permanently, bringing a remarkable wealth of experience and a deep passion for supporting student families.
DeSpain has been a part of the University of Utah community for nine years and has a robust background in early childhood education. She holds degrees in bilingual/multicultural education and early childhood special education, coupled with 23 years of experience managing a nationally accredited child care facility. Her leadership will be instrumental in continuing the center’s commitment to student success As director, DeSpain will oversee a wide range of programs and responsibilities supporting this mission. These include administering the UKids student child care programs, providing guidance to university families—especially those needing additional support—and ensuring all campus programs uphold the SPSC’s rigorous quality standards. “Virginia is passionate about supporting student parents and will continue to enhance the programs that provide vital assistance to families on campus,” said Jerry Basford, Associate Vice President of Finance & Operations.
