Understanding the Student Experience
As part of the Adapting to Student Needs Strategic Plan, Student Affairs envisions supporting students with proactive and personalized pathways to support their well-being and success. One of the first steps to achieving this mission is to better understand who we are currently serving and who we aren’t reaching. To that end, the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs has procured UID card readers for Student Affairs departments to be able to track use information using Campus Connect, the campuswide tool that connects students to hundreds of recognized student organizations, events, activities, and more. These devices allow members of the U community to simply tap their UCard to check-in to offices and events, speeding up the process and providing departments with valuable, real-time data.
“Student Affairs is committed to helping every student discover their passion, people, and purpose," said Lori McDonald, vice president of Student Affairs. “With better information about who is using our services, we will be better equipped to design more inclusive and impactful services in the future. This is the first step in creating a truly student-centered experience.”
This new system updates the way departments engage with students and will allow more streamlined and efficient interactions.
In addition to each department’s dedicated equipment, extra card readers are available for use as needed throughout the year. These extra readers will be available on a first-come first-served basis by reaching out to Emmanuell Beugre, graduate assistant for Student Engagement and Special Initiatives at ccsupport@sa.utah.edu.
