New Director of Student Support and Accountability
The Office of the Dean of Students is thrilled to welcome Dr. Melanie Lee as the Director
of Student Support and Accountability.
In her role as Director of Student Support and Accountability, Dr. Lee will work in partnership with Housing and Residential Education and the Office of the Dean of Students to provide leadership in coordinating and streamlining efforts in both areas, with the aim of creating a more cohesive student experience.
Dr. Lee holds a B.A. in Political Science from Christopher Newport University, an M.S. in College Student Personnel from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, and her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership & Policy from the University of Utah. Her dissertation explored how disabled students experience the construct of leadership while in college. Her research interests include students with disabilities and the student experience in higher education. With over a decade of experience, Dr. Lee has served as an administrator in various types of institutions in higher education, contributing to a variety of student-facing and curriculum-related roles.
“Melanie's positive energy and creativity will assist our team in moving initiatives forward to better serve our students,” said Ken Stonebrook, Associate Dean of Students. “Her connections across campus are also a valuable asset for us as we continue to build meaningful relationships with partners across campus. She is student-focused and will certainly help our students discover their passion, people, and purpose."
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Lee describes herself as a self-proclaimed nerd, an avid Kansas City sports fan, a knowledgeable BBQ aficionado, a passionate sunset chaser, a doting dog mom, and a curious student of life.
