Congratulations to Stan Inman
After 31 years at the University of Utah, Stan Inman will retire on June 1.
Inman is in his 23rd year as the director of the Career & Professional Development Center at the U. In this role, he oversees the centralized career services which provides support to undergraduate and graduate programs in ten different colleges in all aspects of career development including student employment and internships, campus recruiting, employer relations and alumni career services.
"I am so happy to celebrate Stan’s legacy at the U," said Bryan Hubain, associate vice president for Student Development & Inclusion. "To say that this is bittersweet is an understatement. As I reflect on Stan’s contributions to the University of Utah and Career Professional Development Center, it’s hard to not imagine Stan being on our team. It’s hard to not imagine working so closely with him in the future but I am looking forward to collaborating with Stan in other ways as he is a force in Utah with so many colleagues. I have had more than a year to process Stan’s early retirement, and I still need to pinch myself. Like everyone around me, I feel blessed to look around and be able to point to all that Stan has done and contributed to."
Inman received both his B.S. in Psychology and his Master of Education in Student Personnel from Northern Arizona University. He joined the U in 1992 as an academic advisor.
"We did half-day orientations at that time with phone registration for classes," said Inman. "The Student Services Building was still using walk-up windows for registration, and SSB was the hub of activity."
Inman says he found his calling when he joined the Career Services Office in 1998. He became the director in 2001.
"Since that time, I've been privileged to work with some of the best colleagues and friends in a profession that made a real difference for our students and graduates," said Inman. "The work we are doing in the Career Center is so important to the U and its mission. I've loved every minute of my career at the U and feel so grateful for all my experiences. Taking this opportunity for an early retirement is bitter sweet, but I believe the U is destined to become a ntional leader and blaze a trail that so many of us started to build over the decades. Thank you, Unviersity of Utah!"
His service at the university includes many leadership and committee roles including chair of the Student Affairs Professional Development Committee, chair of the Campus-wide Career Development Committee, member of the University Community Leaders Committee, and Student Affairs liaison to the University Policy Committee.
Inman has served as president of both the Rocky Mountain Association of Colleges and Employers (RMACE), and the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers (MPACE). He is currently the serving president of the Utah Association of Colleges and Employers (UACE), and in 2009 he served as a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice Committee.
Stan’s career path in Student Affairs includes experiences in Residential Living, New Student Programs, Academic Advising, Orientation and Leadership, and the last 27 years in Career Services at the U.
Please join us in thanking Stan Inman for his years of dedication and service to the University of Utah and wishing him a very happy retirement.
