Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is an annual campaign to raise public awareness about domestic violence while supporting survivors and secondary survivors. It also gives us an opportunity to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent domestic violence. Domestic violence is a serious, preventable public health problem that affects millions of Americans.

This year, the Center for Student Wellness (CSW) hopes to educate the campus community about the different types of abuse, bring awareness to the campus community that violence happens and how to prevent violence, and build community using “listen, believe, refer.” Follow along with CSW this month to learn more about domestic violence, attend our events, and spread the word across our campus community.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an opportunity to have nuanced conversations about what violence looks like and what we can do as a community to stop it. Men are often excluded from these conversations despite having the expertise of their own experiences and the ways in which they have been impacted by the social norms that influence rape culture. In this town hall, we will explore the how men can work towards stopping violence and the actionable steps we can all take to make our campus community a safer and more inclusive environment. Also, have the chance to chat with our campus partners and learn more about what they are doing to engage men and prevent violence on campus.
