Strategic Results Award Winners
We are excited to announce the winners of the 2022 Student Affairs Strategic Results Award: Ashlee Janovak, Ryan Kirchner, and Sarah Kovalesky.
This award recognizes Student Affairs employees who go above and beyond, working to achieve one or more of our strategic results. These are defined in our strategic plan and include:
- Student support and advocacy: We offer caring and innovative services that facilitate holistic student wellness.
- Operational excellence: We engage in continuous improvement to optimize student success and maximize resources.
- Student engagement: We foster varied opportunities for students to develop leadership and flourish through social and community connections.
- Inclusive excellence: We strive to provide transformative practices and programs that enhances access, representation, and a sense of belonging that is culturally aware, and to remove barriers to success for students and staff.

Ashlee Janovak is recognized for her commitment to student engagement and inclusive excellence. Ashlee is the Assistant Director for Programming
in Union Administration. In this role, she supports students on the Union Programming
Council. She leads with an equity focus, ensuring that students on this council go through inclusion training
to create a better sense of equity. She sees people’s unique needs, rather than grouping everyone into a uniform block. Ashlee never complains and simply
strives to help others. Thank you, Ashlee!
Ryan Kirchner is recognized for his excellence in student engagement and inclusive
excellence. Ryan is the Associate Director of Student Development and Programs in
Campus Recreation Services. In previous roles at Campus Rec, Ryan developed programs
including Climbing Fitness, Disco after Dark, and Sendsations climbing competition.
This past year, he also hosted the Utah State Climbing Competition at the U, bringing
together student climbers and route setters from around the state. Ryan has served
on the Division of Student Affairs Diversity and Wellness Committees, leading the
department’s EDI initiative. He is committed to ensuring EDI efforts are considered
in all processes concerning staff and students. Thank you, Ryan!
Sarah Kovalesky was nominated for the Student Affairs Strategic Results Award for
her excellence in student support and advocacy, operational excellence, student engagement,
and inclusive excellence. Sarah is the Assistant Director of Career Exploration and
Curriculum at the Career and Professional Development Center. Through her own leadership,
Sarah inspires those around her to be better leaders and helpers. She maximizes resources
for her office and has built a streamlined process for their career education courses.
