Established as part of Student Affairs’ reorganization following H.B. 261, the new Center for Student Access and Resources (CSAR) is designed to centralize scholarship cohorts, essential resources and services, and support students in navigating the complexities of academic life.

"This center will help make a very big campus feel a little bit smaller,” said Kirstin Maanum, director of CSAR and former director of the Women’s Resource Center. “Our center serves as a resource connector and provides students with a warm hand-off as they access the services they need. We are excited about the talent and expertise our staff brings.”

CSAR is committed to helping students overcome barriers to success, particularly financial ones. The center manages over $2 million in scholarship opportunities, and students can access help with scholarship navigation through workshops such as “How to Write a Personal Statement” and “Finding the Right Scholarship.” With a large population of transfer students, these sessions also cover critical topics like FAFSA and financial aid.

Additionally, the center manages a variety of scholarship cohort programs focused on supporting students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they have the guidance and tools they need to thrive at the university. The cohort programs foster a sense of belonging among incoming students. Once a student joins a cohort, they remain part of the program for their entire academic journey, provided they maintain academic standing.

“We want to make sure students have access to the tools that can help them stay in school and graduate,” added Maanum. "This is not just about scholarships; it's about providing holistic support."

CSAR also houses student resource navigators dedicated to guiding students toward the services and support they need. These navigators connect students to academic advisors, financial aid assistance, mental health counseling, and peer support networks, ensuring that no student falls through the cracks.

“Our goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of background or financial situation, has the opportunity to succeed,” said Maanum. “We are dedicated to understanding each student's unique situation and providing them with the support they need to thrive at the University of Utah and beyond.”
